Air Conditioning Fundamentals -Heat Energy

The processes that take place when heat is added to a material (solid, liquid, or gas) or removed from it, the concepts of measuring temperature changes and amounts of heat.

Learning Outcome:

1. Define and give one example of sensible and latent heat.
2. Identify physical changes that occur when matter changes state from solid to liquid to gas.
3. Explain the methods of measuring the intensity and quantity of heat.
4. Define “Specific heat”.
5. Explain the methods of measuring the heat required to raise a material to a higher temperature.
6. State the latent heat of fusion for ice and the latent heat of vaporization for water.
7. Explain the methods of measuring the heat released by a material when it cools.
