This two-hour course is an introduction to the basic structure of matter, the various states of matter and the concept of chemical compounds, the behavior of matter under different conditions.

Upon the completion of this module, you will be able to:

1. Define the basic structure of matter.
2. Describe the fundamental structure of an element and a molecule.
3. Describe the fundamental structure of a compound.
4. List some examples of chemical compounds.
5. Describe the complex molecular makeup of different refrigerants and how it affects the behavior of the refrigerant.
6. Explain how the motion of molecules of any material is affected by the state of the material.
7. Define the terms “cohesion” and “absolute zero”.
